Bored

you never mentioned boredom in my mother’s presence

she could rustle up a work project before the words

left your mouth

she would slap a brush or a rag into your hand, clippers or a

shovel and point in all directions

oh she was slick, and fast, setting a pace

that left you pleading for release from your house

arrest

to this day, I’m never bored. I might be on a slowdown

or between projects. Antsy and distracted

contemplating life choices

but never bored

or that voice in my head (sounds an awful lot like mom)

steers me into motion

and something gets

cleaned
